The Canadians: “We've never participated in an international event before”

AS Brossard from Canada will participate in the Gothia Cup in Cancún with their G14 team.

The players in the Canadian club AS Brossard’s G14 team are very excited. The Gothia Cup in Cancún will be very special for them.
– We’ve never participated in an international event before, so the team is looking forward to experience all the aspects of the tournament, says the manager Magali Kreveld.

AS Brossard is from the province Quebec in Canada. Next year AS Brossard will be celebrating its 45th birthday.
– At its beginning in 1978, it was created by a group of football lovers, to share their passion of the game with the city’s youth. Since then, the club’s mission has remained the same, which is to provide a safe and accessible place for boys and girls of all ages and all walks of life to grow, discover and enjoy the game of football.
The club has grown over the years following the increase popularity of the sport in Canada and hosts one of the biggest international tournaments in Quebec every summer, says Magali Kreveld.
Why are you choosing to play in the Gothia Cup Cancún in 2023?
– In an effort to always challenge the team and teach the girls all aspects of the game, we were looking for an international tournament to participate in. When we found out that the Gothia Cup was coming to Mexico and knowing the reputation that the Gothia Cup organization has, we didn’t hesitate. The fact that it was taking place during our school holidays, in a warm place in the middle of our winter was a bonus, she says.

They aim high in the tournament.
– We of course want to win and get a chance to participate in the Gothia Cup in Sweden next summer, says Magali Kreveld.
She’s right. All the winners in the Gothia Cup in Cancún will get free participation and accommodation in the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg. AS Brossard can’t wait to go to sunny Mexico.
–
The team is looking forward to playing against players from all over the world and compare everyone’s different styles of play.
Do you think more teams from Canada should take the chance to play in the Gothia Cup in either Cancún or Gothenburg?
– Of course. Giving our young players a chance to taste an international competition is a great team building experience as well as a great life experience for the players, says Magali Kreveld.
