Gothia Cup Cancun is back with even more teams

The upcoming Gothia Cup in Cancun, scheduled for January 3-8 2024, is showing extraordinary promise. With a greater number of teams than last year's tournament we find teams from both the host nation, Mexico, but also other international countries such as Canada, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, South Africa, and the United States.

In what appears to be a growing trend, numerous teams that previously participated are returning, marking their enthusiasm for the Gothia Cup Cancuns vibrant spirit. Moreover, new teams have eagerly signed up, showcasing the tournament's growing global appeal.

Niclas Andersson Freiholtz, the tournament director, expressed his excitement by stating: "We're thrilled by the fantastic response we've seen for 2024-years edition of Gothia Cup Cancun. It’s heartening to witness the great interest from both returning and new teams. This indicates a lasting impression that the previous tournament made, and that there is a strong enthusiasm among participants."

Among the earliest teams to register for the 2024 tournament was Olympia FC from Bedfordview in South Africa, a B18 team who signed up as early as May, marking their first appearance at the event.

Efforts are currently made to ensure that the tournament is well-organized and set to be a resounding success. Freiholtz commented, "We are fully immersed in the preparations, confident that this edition will surpass all expectations. We look forward to welcoming all new and old faces this January in Cancun."
